Tuesday: Oilers top Pilots to snap 6-game losing streak

The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 7-1 on Tuesday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage in Alaska Baseball League play.

The Oilers snapped a six-game losing streak. All of the losses had come on the current eight-game, seven-day road trip.

Peninsula scored more than three runs on the road trip for the second time.

The victory kept the Oilers from falling into a tie for third place with the Glacier Pilots. Peninsula is 17-17, now two games ahead of the 13-17 Pilots.

The Anchorage Bucs lead the league at 20-10, while the Mat-Su Miners are 1.5 games back at 20-13. The Oilers sit five games back.

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are in last at 10-23. The Oilers end the road trip with a 6 p.m. game Wednesday against the Chinooks at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.

Peninsula then ends its regular season with five games against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

The series starts Saturday, July 27, and ends Wednesday, July 31. All of the games are at 6 p.m., except for the 2 p.m. start time on Sunday, July 28.

Peninsula’s offense scored in five of the nine innings to back a solid pitching performance by Max Sasaki and Zach Camp.

Sasaki went eight innings and gave up a run on four hits while walking one and striking out five.

Camp came on to close the door in the ninth inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Petey Soto was 2 for 5 with two runs scored out of the leadoff spot for the Oilers, while Cody New was 2 for 3 with a run.

Also, Cole Dawson and Zakary Farris each had a pair of RBIs, and Andrew Alva scored two runs.

Logan Sanders had a triple that scored Jacob Kowes for the Pilots.
