Laker, Warthington take Salmon Run Series 2

Chase Laker and Leah Warthington won the second race of the Salmon Run Series on Wednesday at Tsalteshi Trails just outside of Soldotna. The race drew 66 runners.

Laker won for the second straight week, running the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 13 seconds, with Ollie Dahl right behind at 19:19.

Warthingon crossed at 24:52, also good for ninth overall, while Rachel Neuendurt finished at 24:52, good for second among women and 11th overall.

The series continues Wednesday, July 24, from the Skyview Middle School trailhead at Tsalteshi. There also are races July 31 and Aug. 7.

Check-in for the race is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. There is a 1-kilometer kids race at 6 p.m., with a $5 cash donation suggested.

The 5-kilometer race starts at 6:15 p.m. The cost is $15, with various discounts available.

Registration is available at kenaiwatershed.org, and also on the day of the race.

Proceeds go to Kenai Watershed Forum programs.
