Kenai volleyball takes 2nd at West Spiketacular

The Kenai Central volleyball team finished second at the West Spiketacular on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

In the tournament’s top bracket, the Kardinals fell 2-1 to Wasilla in the championship match. Kenai had gotten to the title match by defeating Thunder Mountain 2-1 and Chugiak 2-0.

Emma Beck made the all-tournament team for Kenai.

Soldotna and Homer both made the silver bracket and finished fifth.

The Stars lost to Colony 2-1, while the Mariners lost to West Valley 2-1. In consolation matches, SoHi lost to Ketchikan 2-1 and Homer lost to Palmer 2-0.

Nikiski defeated Seward 2-0 for the championship of the bronze bracket. Nikiski beat Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale to make the final, while Seward defeated Grace Christian 2-0.

In Friday and Saturday pool play, Kenai finished 10-2 in Pool C, Nikiski finished 2-10 in Pool C, Soldotna finished 5-7 in Pool B, Homer finished 4-8 in Pool A and Seward finished 2-10 in Pool A.

In pool play, the Kardinals defeated Colony 25-16, 25-15, split with South by winning 25-14 and losing 25-23, split with Service by losing 25-17 and losing 25-13, defeated Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale 25-14, 25-13, defeated Kodiak 25-13, 25-16, and defeated Nikiski 25-15, 25-16.

The Bulldogs lost to Kenai, defeated Juneau 25-20, 25-5, lost to Colony 25-15, 25-22, lost to Kodiak 25-22, 25-20, lost to South 25-18, 17-15, lost to Service 25-23, 21-15.

The Stars split with Grace Christian by winning 25-11 and losing 25-14, lost to Dimond 25-6, 25-16, defeated Ketchikan 25-22, 25-24, defeated Palmer 25-16, 25-22, lost to Valdez 25-19, 25-19 and lost to Chugiak 25-15, 25-23.

The Mariners lost to Wasilla 25-12, 25-11, defeated Bartlett 25-15, 25-14, lost to West Valley 25-13, 25-18, lost to Thunder Mountain 25-18, 25-21, split with Seward by winning 25-17 and losing 25-22, and split with West by losing 25-18 and winning 25-7.

The Seahawks lost to West 25-13, 25-20, lost to West Valley 25-16, 25-12, lost to Wasilla 25-16, 25-10, split with Bartlett by winning 25-17 and losing 25-21, lost to Thunder Mountain 25-18, 25-15, and split with Seward.
