Hoops roundup: Ninilchik boys stay undefeated

The Ninilchik and Seward basketball teams split on the opening day of the Seahawk Classic on Thursday.

The Wolverines boys ran their record to 8-0 by defeating the Seahawks 73-39. Seward falls to 2-8.

Ninilchik led 21-11 after the first quarter and 40-23 at halftime.

Lukah Kalugin paced the Wolverines with 24 points, while Landon Colburn had 16, Cole Moore had 11, Justin Trail had nine, Jaylin Scott had seven, Blake Lemons had four and Cody Blossom had two.

For Seward, Nick Ambrosiani had 11, Bergen Davis had 10, Tommy Cronin had seven, Ben Ambrosiani had four, Ozzy Deal had four and Peter Spanos had three.

The Seward girls defeated Ninilchik 40-19. The Seahawks are 4-6 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 3-8.

Seward led 16-4 after the first quarter and 29-9 at halftime.

Shelby Sieminski paced Seward with 14 points, while Robin Cronin had 10, Lena Jagielski had nine, Hailey Ingalls, Hannah Schilling and Wren Dougherty had two, and Renee Elhard had one.

For Ninilchik, Riley Tucker had 10, while Zoya Fefelov had three, and Taylor Rickard, Autumn Calabrese and Rian Ofstad each had two.

In other tournament action, the Bethel girls defeated Valdez 39-30 and the Valdez boys topped Bethel 67-41.

Lady Lynx Tournament

The Soldotna girls dropped a 59-29 decision to Ketchikan on Thursday to fall to 4-9 overall.

Leading the Kings in the scoring column were Jenae Rhodes with 15 points, Lindsay Byron with 13 and Paige Boehlert with 10.

For the Stars, Katelyn Morrison had nine, Ellie Burns had eight, Tanner Inman had four, Morgan Lemm had three, Montana Fischer and Kaitlyn McAnelly each had two, and Rhys Cannava had one.

The Stars play West Valley at 2:45 p.m. today. West Valley lost to Colony 67-46 on Thursday.

Nenana Invitational Tournament

The Hooper Bay girls defeated CIA 51-31 to drop the Eagles to 3-7 overall.

Leorg Smith led Hooper Bay with 18 points, while Susie Long pitched in 13.

For the Eagles, Tatum Rozak and Hope Hillyer each hit for 12 points, while Kaitlyn Liles had four, Vera Vitryachenko had two and Rebekah Dillingham pitched in one.

CIA plays Northway at 11 a.m. today.

The results of the CIA boys game was not available as the Clarion went to press.
