Wrestling roundup: Results from Mountain City, Monster Mash Duals

Bethel won the Mountain City Wrestling Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

The Warriors scored 190.5 points for the victory, while Mt. Edgecumbe was second with 173.5.

From the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai was fifth with 138.5, Homer was seventh with 133.5, Nikiski was eighth with 116.5 and Seward was 11th with 97.5 points.

There were 40 teams that scored at the event. The tournament is considered a preview of the Division II state tournament.

Daniel Steffensen led the Kardinals by taking first place at 152.

Also for Kenai, Gunnar Stanley was fourth at 140, Delen Byrd was sixth at 152, Keagan Stanley was sixth at 160, Thaddeus Lingenfelter was fourth at 189, Aiden Petla was sixth at 215 and Lochlyn Roney was sixth at 285.

Homer received titles from Paul Minke at 145 and Brayden Woods at 160.

Also for the Mariners, Landyn Woods was second at 152.

Jaxson Young took a title for Nikiski at 135. Also for the Bulldogs, Rex Wittmer was third at 215 and Wyatt Maguire was fourth at 145.

For Seward, Ridge Conant wrestled to the crown at 119. Also for the Seahawks, Emery Kirchner was second at 125 and Anthony Smith was second at 145.

Soldotna girls take second at Mountain City Wrestling Invitational

The Soldotna girls wrestling team took second place at the Mountain City Wrestling Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

The Student Wrestling Development Program won with 162.5 points, while the Stars had 144. Homer was ninth with 75, Seward was 17th with 44, Nikiski was 25th with 20.5 and Kenai was 35th with 12.

Jessica LeClair led the Stars by taking the championship at 100.

Also for Soldotna, Valarie McAnelly was second at 107, Daisy Hannevold was third at 145, Bella Byrd was third at 152, Infinity-Ann Asiata-Higa was third at 165 and Rowan Peck was fourth at 126.

Saoirse Cook won the title for Homer at 132. Also for the Mariners, Storey Cook took fourth at 114 and Christabelle Minke was sixth at 120.

Sobina Clendaniel led the Seahawks by taking the title at 126.

For Nikiski, Braylynn Young was sixth at 132.

For Kenai, Jenna Yeoman was sixth at 165.

Soldotna boys take second at Monster Mash Duals

The Soldotna boys wrestling team finished second at the Monster Mash Duals on Friday and Saturday at South High School in Anchorage.

The tournament was won by South.

The Stars defeated Dimond 78-6, defeated Eagle River 67-12, defeated Colony 55-21, defeated Wasilla 46-35, lost to South 42-36, defeated Student Wrestling Development Program 42-36 and defeated Palmer 57-24.
