Twins’ Olson shuts out AK Wild for league win

The American Legion Twins defeated the AK Wild of North Pole 4-0 on Friday in Anchorage in nonleague play.

The Twins move to 8-5 overall and were in fourth place in the league with some games still to be completed Friday. The Wild are 1-4 and 4-9.

Malakai Olson pitched all seven innings for the Twins, getting the shutout while giving up just three hits. He walked three and struck out six.

The local nine scored runs in the bottom of the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Atticus Gibson led the offense by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Braden Smith had a double and a run, while Hunter Williams was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI, Charlie Chamberlain had a run and an RBI, and Andrew Pieh had a hit and a run.

Thursday, the Twins lost a nonleague game 20-4 in five innings to a squad from Eugene, Oregon, in Anchorage.

Mindful of a big weekend of league games in Anchorage, the Twins used five different pitchers and Eugene was able to roll up 22 hits.

Williams and Chamberlain each had two hits for the Twins, while Gibson, Pieh, Jace Crall and Jayden Stuyvesant added hits.

The Twins have a pair of league games in Anchorage on Saturday, playing the AK Wild at 10:30 a.m. and Bartlett at 1 p.m.
