Saturday: Twins move into tie for 1st with pair of wins

The American Legion Twins stormed into a tie for first place in the league by winning a pair of league games Saturday in Anchorage.

The Twins defeated the AK Wild of North Pole 16-3 in five innings and defeated Bartlett 13-2 in five innings.

The local nine is now 6-2 in the league and 10-5 overall, and is even with Eagle River, also 6-2, for the top spot in the league.

The AK Wild is 2-5 and 5-10, while Bartlett is 1-7 and 2-9.

In the 16-3 victory over the Alaska Wild, Hunter Williams pitched two scoreless and hitless innings for the Twins, striking out two. Andrew Pieh then gave up a run on four hits in two innings, walking two. Atticus Gibson pitched the final inning, giving up two runs on a hit while walking two and striking out one.

At the plate, Williams was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, Braden Smith was 3 for 5 with a run and three RBIs, Charlie Chamberlain was 2 for 3 with two runs and two hits, Gibson was 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, Jace Crall was 1 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, Zane Pellegrom had two runs, Ari Miller was 3 for 4 and Levi Mickelson was 2 for 3.

In the 13-2 victory over Bartlett, Smith went all five innings, giving up the two earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out six.

Williams scored three runs, while Smith was 3 for 4 with three runs and Malakai Olson was 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Next up for the Twins is the Lance Coz Memorial Wood Bat Tourney at the Kenai Little League fields.

The Friday schedule is Bartlett’s A team vs. Kenai’s A team at 1:30 p.m., Lower Columbia (Washington) against Bartlett AA at 4 p.m., and Lower Columbia vs. Twins AA at 7 p.m.

The Saturday schedule is Bartlett AA vs. Kenai A at 11:30 a.m., Bartlett AA vs. Kenai AA at 1 p.m. and Lower Columbia vs. Kenai AA at 4 p.m.

The Sunday schedule is Lower Columbia vs. Kenai AA at 10 a.m. and Bartlett vs. Kenai A at noon.
