Thursday baseball: Stars win 4th straight

The Soldotna baseball team defeated Palmer 11-4 on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Stars won for the fourth straight time — all in the conference. SoHi is now 5-2 in the league and 7-4 overall.

Trenton Ohnemus continued a string of solid starts from Stars pitchers of late. Ohnemus went all seven innings, giving up four unearned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out 10.

At the plate for the Stars, Derrick Jones was 2 for 4, Andrew Pieh scored three times, Ohnemus was 2 for 3, and Colby Sturman was 2 for 3.

Wasilla 18, Homer 6

The host Mariners dropped a nonconference game to the Warriors on Thursday to fall to 1-6 overall.

The Warriors had a 12-0 lead after 2 1-2 innings, but Homer was able to score six runs in the bottom of the third. Wasilla then tacked on four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

CJ Burns and Oak Anderson were both 2 for 3 for the Mariners. Preston Stanislaw did the best job of holding down the Warriors, getting two outs while not giving up a run or a hit.
