SoHi hoops sweep Homer

The Soldotna basketball teams swept Homer in a pair of nonconference meetings Tuesday in Homer.

The SoHi boys won 53-43, while the SoHi girls opened the evening with a 51-43 win.

In the boys game, the Mariners got out to a 19-16 halftime lead, but the Stars found their groove in the second half, outscoring Homer 37-23 to take control and secure the win.

SoHi sophomore Jersey Truesdell hit three buckets in the third quarter to fuel the second-half run and finished with a team-high 12 points, while Caleb Spence had nine points and Brandon Crowder and David Michael each finished with eight.

Jordan Beachy hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points for Homer.

Soldotna girls 51, Homer 34

Aliann Schmidt scored 18 points to lead the Stars to the win.

Brittani Blossom chipped in 13 points for SoHi, while Grace Godfrey notched seven points to lead Homer.

Soldotna raced out to a 23-15 halftime lead, and outscored Homer 14-8 in the third quarter to push the lead to 37-23, helped by a pair of triples from Mei Miller.

Wasilla C girls 32, Nikolaevsk 28

The Nikolaevsk girls lost a nonconference road game Tuesday to Wasilla’s C-team.

Elizabeth Fefelov notched 10 points for the Warriors, while Kristin Klaich controlled the glass with 19 rebounds.
