The Soldotna Stars fell 7-4 to Colony, Saturday night in the third-place game of the Big Lake Lions Classic hockey tournament in Big Lake.

Jake Kirsch sparked the Knights with a hat trick, scoring a goal late in the first period to put Colony up 3-2, then adding a goal in the second and finishing off his tally late in the third. Wyatt Medcoff scored two goals for SoHi, while Levi Hensley and Alex Montague both chipped in scoring strikes.

The Stars led 2-0 early after a power play goal from Hensley and a short-hander from Medcoff just six minutes into the game.

However, Tristan Avoletta scored twice in a 2:13 span late in the first period to tie it up, and Kirsch slotted in the go-ahead goal with 1:56 to play in the frame. The Knights scored twice more in the second period to stake out a 5-2 lead.

SoHi junior goaltender Billy Yoder stopped 39 of 46 shots on goal for SoHi.

Kenai lost the fourth-place game 9-4 to Palmer.
