Friday softball: Homer, Soldotna pick up conference wins

The Soldotna softball team swept a Northern Lights Conference doubleheader from Redington on Friday at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Stars won 14-6 in five innings and 24-4 in three innings to move to 13-7 overall and 5-2 in conference.

In the 14-6 game, Soldotna led 5-0 after the second inning, 11-3 after the third and 13-3 after the fourth.

Tatum Cooper was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs for SoHi, while Kacey Cunningham was 2 for 3 with five RBIs, Bailey Conner was 2 for 2 with three runs, Aliya Blough had three runs and two RBIs, and Kadee Adams was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs.

In the 24-4 game, SoHi scored 10 times in the first inning and 12 times in the third inning.

Kathryn DeBardelaben pitched all three innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, while walking two.

Cooper was 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs, Alyssa McDonald had three runs, Bella Gares was 3 for 3 with four runs and four RBIs, Kiara Forkner was 3 for 3 with three runs, DeBardelaben was 3 for 3 with four runs and three RBIs, Blough was 3 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs, and Cunningham was 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs.

Homer 22, Palmer 8

The host Mariners notched a Friday Northern Lights Conference victory in four innings to move to 2-2 in the league and 9-15-2 overall.

Homer trailed 3-1 after the first inning, but went up 6-4 after two and 12-8 after three before erupting for 10 runs in the fourth.

Keagan Niebuhr pitched all four for Homer, giving up eight runs — six earned — on four hits.

Julie Guess scored five runs for Homer, while Charlotte Fraley had four runs and two RBIs, Emily Owens was 4 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs, Niebuhr was 3 for 5 with two runs and six RBIs, Lexy Sweeney had two runs and three RBIs, Alaiyah Brost was 2 for 3 with two runs, Autumn Jones was 2 for 4, and Natalie Hinsberger had three runs.
