Fox leads locals at Besh Cup race 2

Soldotna skier Sadie Fox topped all local racers Sunday at the Besh Cup race No. 2 at the Birch Hill ski area in Fairbanks.

Fox, a 2015 Soldotna High School graduate, currently competes for the University of Alaska Anchorage, and finished 12th among 43 finishers in the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle mass start race with a time of 33 minutes, 49.7 seconds, about 2:33 behind race winner Rosie Frankowski of Alaska Pacific University. APU teammate and Fairbanks native Becca Rorabaugh was second, 44 seconds adrift.

Also from Soldotna, Kellie Arthur finished 41st in 41:36.6.

APU skier and Fairbanks native David Norris won the men’s 15K race with a time of 41:03.1, with Service High racer Gus Schumacher finishing three seconds behind in second.

SoHi racer Jeremy Kupferschmid was 39th in the 52-man field with a time of 51:14.3, while teammate Koby Vinson took 43rd in 51:30.9.

In the women’s U16 race, Soldotna’s Cameron Blackwell finished 15th with a time of 22:15.9 over the 5K course, about 6:10 behind race winner Kendell Kramer of Fairbanks.
