Esports: Kenai Mario Kart eliminated in quarterfinals

Kenai Central’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team saw their playoff run brought to an end Wednesday with a loss to the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science in a quarterfinal match for the Coastal Region League.

Kenai entered the playoffs at the fourth seed, above Hawaii’s fifth, but earlier in the season, Hawaii had swept the Kardinals.

Thursday, the Kardinals team composed of Boyd Lehmberg, Blake Gillis, Kage Adkins and Alexander Collet managed to take a point off of Hawaii, but the game closed 2-1 in Hawaii’s favor.

The only other Alaska team in Coastal Region playoffs was Kodiak High School, which also saw itself eliminated with a loss to top seed President William McKinley High School of Honolulu, who will now play Hawaii for a spot in the finals.
