The Wasilla Warriors baseball team improved to 10-0 with a 13-3 win over Soldotna on Saturday afternoon in Wasilla in Northern Lights Conference play.
Jeffrey Forster and Blake Carricaburu each drove in three runs to help the Warriors stay undefeated. Forster finished 2 for 3, with two runs and three RBIs. Carricaburu was 2 for 2, with three RBIs and another scored.
Tyler Hansen added two runs, two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors.
Wasilla took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added five runs in the second. Soldotna climbed back in the fourth, but Wasilla answered back with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Wasilla 10, Kenai 0
The Kardinals fell to 2-4 in the NLC and 2-4 overall with the Friday loss to the host Warriors. The game was called after six innings due to the mercy rule.
Tyler Hansen kept the Kards off the board, allowing just three hits.
“Their pitcher did a great job keeping us off-balance,” Kenai coach John Kennedy said. “He was a left-hander, and we don’t see that unless we come to the Valley.”
Connor Jones was 1 for 1 for Kenai, while Dallas Pierren had a double in three trips to the plate and Paul Steffensen also was 1 for 3.
“We’re just not hitting the baseball, and when we do we hit it right at somebody,” Kennedy said. “We’re not getting the breaks other teams are getting.”
Miles Jones took the loss on the mound. Kennedy said he did a good job, but that five of his 10 runs were unearned.
Colony 10, Kenai 0
The Kards fell to 2-5 overall and in the league in losing at Colony.
Once again, Kenai got just three hits.
“Right now our offense is just lacking,” Kennedy said. “There’s not much you can do when you’re only getting three hits in a game.”
Dallas Pierren took the loss on the mound, but Kennedy said the pitching has actually been good.
“The frustrating thing is we’re having to get more outs than we should,” Kennedy said. “When we make an error, it costs us runs.”
Miles Jones had a hit for Kenai, while Isaac Mese had his first hit of the season.
Colony 7, Soldotna 1
The host Knights scored seven unanswered runs to top the Stars on Friday in NLC action.
SoHi took an early 1-0 lead, but Ben Ross shut the Stars down the rest of the way, allowing four hits and no earned runs in posting a complete game.
Justice Miller was 2 for 3 with an RBI for SoHi, while Calvin Hills scored the lone run.
Homer 10, Palmer 8
The visiting Mariners scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out an NLC victory on Friday.
Wylie Donich pitched all seven innings for the win, and only four of his runs were earned.
On offense, Brandon Beachy had a double and two singles, Nahoa Jette had a double and a single, and Greg Smith and Kyle Johnson each added two-RBI singles.
“The seven, eight and nine hitters supplied most of the hits, so that was nice,” Homer coach Mark Putney said.
Homer 12, Houston 8
The visiting Mariners improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the league with the NLC victory.
“We played a pretty strong game until the last inning, when we let a few runs in on some bone-headed plays,” Putney said.
Beachy pitched six innings for the win, while Jette pitched the last inning.
Tommy Bowe had a home run, double and single, while Owen Delehanty had a double and Patrick Rainwater had two hits.
