The Homer baseball team defeated Kenai Central 4-3 on Wednesday at the Soldotna Little League fields in Northern Lights Conference action.

The game was originally supposed to be in Homer, but was moved to Soldotna due to field conditions. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

The Kardinals had a 2-0 lead after the second inning, but Homer tied it with two runs in the third and went up 4-2 in the sixth. The Kardinals scored a run in the seventh.

CJ Burns was 2 for 4 to lead the Mariners on offense. Camden Wise pitched six innings and gave up two runs — one earned — on seven hits while walking three and striking out two.

Henry Wedvik pitched the final inning, giving up an unearned run.

For the Kardinals, Daniel Steffensen was 2 for 4, while Jacob Joanis was 3 for 3.

Joanis, Braden Smith and Jackson Marion all pitched an inning, with Marion giving up two unearned runs.

Gabe Smith and Gabe Joanis each pitched two innings, with Joanis giving up two earned runs.
