Thursday hoops: Kenai girls, boys; Seward girls win at Seahawk Classic

The Kenai girls and boys, Seward girls and West junior varsity boys all notched victories Thursday on the first day of the Seahawk Classic in Seward.

The Seward girls notched a 65-36 victory over Kodiak to move to 8-2 overall.

Ava Jagielski poured in 22 for the Seahawks, while Lia Shank and Grace Fleming had 12 apiece. Also, Mikinley Williams had 8, Natalie Sieminski had 6, Sevin Phillips had 3 and Addison Lemme had 2.

West’s JV captured a 61-56 victory over Seward. The Seahawks fell to 5-5.

Emerson Cross pumped in 21 points for Seward, while Mason Elhard and Talon Lemme each hit for 10. Also, Noah Price and Lane Petersen had 5, Jack Lindquist had 3 and Luke Elhard had 2.

The Kenai girls and boys defeated Delta by nearly identical scores, with the boys winning 45-35 to move to 9-6 overall and the girls winning 44-35 to move to 10-5 overall.

Bryleigh Williams collected 10 points to lead the Kards, while Willow Graham had 8, McKenzie Spence had 7, Evelyn Cooper and Ellsi Miller had 6, Jenica Andersen had 3, and Sierra Hershberger and Savannah Hershberger had 2.

For the Huskies, Lily Koba had 23, Valencea Beck had 8 and Iris Haas had 4.

Caleb Litke paced the Kardinals with 17, while Miles Metteer added 15. Also, Reid Titus had 6, and Riel Castillo and Mason Tunseth each had 2.

For the Huskies, Noriel Lugo had 11, Eli Moreno had 7, Brady Bevard and Jorge Pagan had 6, Philip Kilimnik had 3 and Eduard Shestopalov had 2.

Friday, the Kenai girls play Kodiak at 3 p.m., the Kenai boys play West JV at 4:30 p.m., the Delta girls play Seward at 6 p.m. and the Delta boys play Seward at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, the West JV boys play Delta at 11 a.m., the Kodiak girls play Delta at 12:30 p.m., the Kenai boys play Seward at 2 p.m. and the Kenai girls play Seward at 3:30 p.m.

Kotzebue Shootout

The Homer girls started the Kotzebue Shootout on Thursday with a 52-39 loss to Kotzebue and a 66-27 loss to Nome to fall to 2-9 overall.

In the game against Kotzebue,Channing Lowney paced the Mariners with 18, while Madalyn Miotke had 12, Abby Ostrom had 4, Stella Condon had 2, and Emily Stafford, Kieryn Huffman and Mally Im had 1.

For Kotzebue, Mckenzie Swanson and Elizabeth Brown had 14, Ashlyn Nelson had 9, Mylie McConnell had 7, Caliana Sheldon had 4, and Pauline McCall and Melina Garcia had 2.

Against Nome, Lowney had 10, while Keagan Niebuhr had 7, Condon had 3, and Ostrom, Kylee Akee and Miotke had 2.

For Nome, Alora Stasenko had 17, Benny Lie had 14, KJ West had 11, Lauren Kingstrom and Kamylee Walters had 6, Wookie Nichols had 5, and Sage Gregg, Brooklyn Crowe and Nyelle Lie had 2.

The boys opened the tourney with an 82-69 loss to Kotzebue to fall to 2-7 overall.

Einar Pederson poured in 28 for Homer, while Spencer Dye had 12, Benjamin Engebretsen had 9, Preston Stanislaw had 7, Henry Wedvik had 5, Weston Marley had 4, and Kaiden Bogie and Jamen Anderson had 2.

For Kotzebue, Ayden Wesley had 31, Ug Zuniga had 25, John Tikik had 14, Ben Marcus had 8, and Jake Sheldon and Jaxen Williamson had 2.
