Ninilchik junior Kade McCorison poured in 46 points on Saturday as the host Wolverines defeated Nanwalek 87-64 in nonconference action.
According to Ninilchik head coach Nick Finley, McCorison set a new Ninilchik record for points in a game as the Wolverines improved to 9-6 overall this season. McCorison had the old record last season, when he went for 45 points against North Douglas (Oregon).
Also for Ninilchik, Max Russell had 14, Brandt Mill had 11, Andon McCorison had 9, Onyx Allen had 5 and Holdon Cameron had 2.
For Nanwalek (0-6), Sean Moonin and Macarius Evans had 16, Kenji Simmons had 11, Noah Seville had 8, Chase Kvasnikoff had 5, Kayonte Simmons had 4, and Shane Moonin and Dmitri Kvasnikoff had 2.
The Nanwalek girls defeated Ninilchik 36-19. Nanwalek improves to 1-5 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 3-11 overall.
For Nanwalek, Hadassah Haskins had 14, Alyson Seville had 9, Emma Tanape had 5, Ludmilla Hetrick had 4, and Adelynn Geagel and Harleigh Romanov had 2.
For Ninilchik, Caelis Cress and Rylee Lemons had 5, Bella Berger had 3, and Lily Berger, Aliah Mayer and Kate Hendryx had 2.
Seahawk Classic
The Seward girls and Kenai Central boys won the Seahawk Classic on Saturday in Seward.
The Seward and Kenai girls both came into Saturday 2-0 in the tourney. The Seahawks topped the Kards 41-35 to take the title.
Seward is 10-2 and the winners of 10 straight. Kenai is 11-6 and saw a seven-game winning streak snapped.
Ava Jagielski paced Seward with 13, while Lia Shank had 8, Mikinley Williams and Grace Fleming had 6, Natalie Sieminski had 5 and Addison Lemme had 3.
For the Kardinals, Sierra Hershberger pumped in 11 while Ellsi Miller had 9, Bryleigh Williams had 5, Makenzie Spence had 4, and Evelyn Cooper and Gracee Every each had 3.
The Kenai boys notched a 62-39 victory over the Seahawks to win a tournament for the second straight weekend. The Kards are 11-6 and have won six straight. Seward is 6-6.
Reid Titus and Caleb Litke led the way for the Kards with 15 apiece, while Miles Metteer and Mason Tunseth each had 12. Also, Riel Castillo had 5 and Carter Felchle had 3.
For the Seahawks, Talon Lemme had 18, Noah Price had 9, and Jack Lindquist and Emerson Cross had 6.
In other tournament action Saturday, the West junior varsity boys topped Delta 52-39 and the Kodiak girls defeated Delta 41-39.
Making all-tourney for Kenai were Titus, Litke, Metteer, Miller and Spence. Making all-tourney for Seward were Cross, Talon Lemme, Williams, Jagielski and Fleming.
Colony sweeps Soldotna
The host Knights swept the Stars on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action.
The Colony girls won 76-25 to drop the Stars to 2-4 in the league and 9-9 overall.
Soldotna head coach Rustin Hitchcock wrote in a text message that his team came out strong and led with about four minutes left in the second quarter, but then Colony’s pressure began to shift the game.
For the Stars, Alyssa McDonald had 7, Anika Jedlicka and Laurel Johnson had 4, Grayson Henry and Hope Hillyer had 3, and Anaulie Sedivy had 1.
Hallie Clark paced the Knights with 20 points, while Tonya Karpow had 17, Ashlyn Waggoner had 8, Jericho Wuestenberg and Annelise Larsen had 7, Ally Shelley had 6, Annie Bush had 5, and Bella Shelley and Aria Smith had 3.
The Colony boys won 56-45 to drop the Stars to 2-4 in the league and 7-11 overall.
For the Stars, Izaiah Gilbert put up 24 while Easton Hawkins had 12, Owen Buckbee and Bryan Berg had 3, Jayden Stuyvesant had 2 and Josh Babcock had 1.
For the Knights, Charlie Gardner had 21, Leyton Lockard had 11, Mylz Mongeau had 8, Jordan Sterling had 7, Malik Balmes had 6 and Nile Deland had 3.
Grace girls 48, Nikiski 20
The host Grizzlies notched a Peninsula Conference victory Saturday to drop the Bulldogs to 0-2 in the league and 3-9 overall.
For Nikiski, Blakeley Jorgensen pumped in 11, while Madison Iyatunguk had 5 and Kailey Stynsberg had 2.
For Grace, Sophie Lentfer had 19, Jaden Helton had 10, MJ Van der horst had 9, Poppy Wiggers-Pidduck and Salima had 4, and Hope Jackson had 2.
Kotzebue Shootout
The Homer boys won and the Homer girls lost Saturday at the Kotzebue Shootout.
The Mariners boys topped North Pole 67-40 to finish 1-2 at the tourney and improve to 3-8 overall.
Henry Wedvik led the way for the Mariners with 24, while Spencer Dye and Einar Pederson each had 14. Also, Benjamin Engebretsen had 9, Preston Stanislaw had 4 and Weston Marley had 2.
For North Pole, Landon Swinning had 17, Carter Swinning had 9, Andrew Plowman, Nico Messa and Payton Jones had 4, and Andrew Choi had 2.
The Homer girls lost 49-35 to Nome to finish 0-4 at the tourney and fall to 2-11 overall.
For Homer, Keagan Niebuhr had 12, Abby Ostrom had 8, Channing Lowney had 7, Madalyn Miotke had 4, and Stella Condon and Kylee Akee had 2.
For Nome, Alora Stasenko had 13, KJ West and Wookie Nichols had 11, Benny Lie had 10, and Sage Gregg and Lauren Kinstrom had 2.
Lowney, Pederson and Wedvik made the all-tourney team for the Mariners. Also, Pederson won the free throw contest and Engebretsen won the 3-point contest by making 20 treys in a minute.
