The American Legion Post 20 Twins lost 14-1 in five innings to Madisonville (Kentucky) Post 6 on Sunday in the semifinals of the Alaska 529 Midseason Classic at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
The Rangers would go on to defeat Klamath Falls (Oregon) for the championship 1-0. Jax Lee, who shut the Twins out with a complete game in the championship of the Lance Coz Wood Bat Tournament, was at it again with a two-hit shutout of the Falcons.
The Twins (8-5-2) had played to a pair of nine-inning ties against Klamath Falls and Chugiak Post 33, which took fifth at the tourney, on Saturday.
Post 20 and Madisonville had split two games at the Coz tourney, but the Rangers led 5-0 after the first, 9-0 after the second and 14-0 after the third inning Sunday.
That kept the Twins from making the second Midseason Classic championship game in program history.
Layden Bozarth went the distance for Madisonville, giving up an unearned run on six hits while walking one and striking out six.
Bozarth was 3 for 4 with three runs, while Hayden Hudson was 2 for 2, Connor Mitchuson was 2 for 4, Micah Austin was 2 for 3 with three runs, and Jaelin Groves scored three runs.
For the Twins, Jayden Stuyvesant was 2 for 2 and Daniel Steffensen was 2 for 3.
Tristen Roberts gave up nine runs on nine hits in 1 2-3 innings for Post 20, while Dwight Brown gave up five runs — one earned — on four hits in 2 1-3 innings.
The Twins jump back into league play Wednesday when they travel to play Eagle River at 6:45 p.m.
