Saturday baseball: Kenai, SoHi win on road

The visiting Soldotna baseball team defeated Grace Christian 16-1 in five innings Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Stars moved to 1-1 in the league and 4-9-2 overall. This was just the second game of the season against Division II competition for SoHi, but all the games are Division II for the rest of the season.

Brenden Theel went four innings, giving up a run on a hit while walking three and striking out eight. Jack Harper pitched a perfect inning.

At the plate, Matthew Schilling was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI and Theel was 2 for 3 with three runs.

Also, Malakai BeDunnah scored twice, Colby Sturman scored twice, Brett Hostetler had two RBIs, Easton Hawkins was 2 for 3, Tucker Blough had two runs and two RBIs, Samuel Graham had two runs and Harper had two RBIs.

Kenai 7, Palmer 3

The visiting Kardinals notched a nonconference victory over Palmer on Saturday to move to 5-1 overall.

Jacob Joanis went four innings for Kenai, giving up two runs — one earned — on three hits. Everett Chamberlain pitched the last three, giving up a run on three hits.

Braden Smith was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Joanis had two runs.
