The visiting Homer softball team split a pair of Northern Lights Conference games with Redington on Saturday.
The Mariners lost 24-22 and won 14-6 to move to 1-4 in the league and 3-8 overall.
In the 24-22 game, Redington led 12-11 entering the top of the fifth, but Homer went up 13-12. Redington scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth, but the Mariners answered with seven in the top of the sixth. Redington then scored five in the bottom of the sixth.
Keagan Niebuhr pitched all six innings for Homer, yielding 24 runs — 17 earned — on 12 hits.
At the plate, Amakah Stineff was 2 for 3 with three runs, Niebuhr had two runs, Almalinda Norman was 2 for 4 with three runs, Madisen Doynes was 3 for 4 with four runs and three RBIs, Stella Condon was 2 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs, Natalie Farren was 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs, Katie Hallam had four runs and Natalie Hinsberger was 3 for 5 with five RBIs.
In the 14-6 game, Niebuhr was able to hold the Huskies to six runs — two earned — on two hits in five innings.
Hinsberger was 2 for 2 with three runs and three RBIs, Stineff was 3 for 4 with two runs, Niebuhr was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Norman had two RBIs, Farren had two runs and Piper Arno had two runs.
Kenai 23, Houston 11
The visiting Kardinals picked up a nonconference victory Saturday to move to 6-5 overall.
Kenai scored 11 times in the second inning and nine times in the third inning.
Lola McEwen pitched all five innings, giving up 11 runs — six earned — on seven hits.
Kayani Whicker was 2 for 3 with two runs, Mackenzie Fann had two runs, Kailey Stynsberg was 3 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs, Avery Ellis had three runs, Caitlyn Crapps was 3 for 5 with two runs and four RBIs, Blakeley Jorgensen was 4 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs, Seylor Tomrdle had two runs, Avia Miller had two runs and three RBIs, and McEwen had three runs.
Soldotna splits in Anchorage
The visiting Stars split nonconference games in Anchorage on Saturday, defeating Dimond 9-8 before losing to West 11-6. SoHi is 7-3-1.
The Dimond game went five innings. SoHi scored six times in the top of the fifth to lead 9-3, then held on.
Isabelle Cruz went the distance, allowing eight runs on four hits. She also was 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs at the plate.
Also, Tatum Cooper had three runs, Alyssa McDonald was 3 for 4 with three runs and Kacey Cunningham was 2 for 4.
Against West, giving up seven runs in the bottom of the first was the difference.
Cruz got the first two outs, but gave up seven runs. Cooper came in and allowed four runs in 3 1-3 innings.
Izzy Jones and Bekah Pieh were each 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
