The Soldotna baseball team defeated Homer 17-7 in five innings Monday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.
The Stars move to 2-1 in the league and 5-9-2 overall. Homer is 1-2 and 6-4.
Colby Sturman had a huge game for the Stars, hitting a grand slam in the second inning.
SoHi had a 5-0 lead after the bottom of the second inning, and that was more than enough with Sturman on the hill.
Sturman worked four innings and gave up a run on two hits while walking four and striking out eight.
The Stars took a 12-1 lead into the fifth inning, but the Mariners scored six runs in the top of the sixth. Soldotna scored five runs in the bottom of the inning for the mercy rule.
Also for the Stars, Brett Hostetler was 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, Jett Brophy was 2 for 3 with three runs and an RBI, and Tucker Blough was 2 for 4 with a run and RBIs.
Also, Samuel Graham had two runs, Wyatt Gagnon had two runs, Easton Hawkins had two runs and Malakai BeDunnah had two runs.
Graham gave up six unearned runs on five hits in an inning.
For Homer, Clyde Clemens was 1 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Willem Hakala had two RBIs.
Henry Wedvik gave up 10 runs — four earned — on six hits in 3 1-3 innings.
CJ Burns yielded five runs in two-thirds of an inning, while Austin Briscoe gave up two runs — one earned — in one-third of an inning.
