Wednesday baseball: Soldotna topples Homer

The visiting Soldotna baseball team defeated Homer 19-6 on Wednesday in Northern Lights Conference action.

The Stars are 12-3 and 9-2 in the league, while the Mariners are 5-6 and 4-4.

SoHi led 4-2 after the third inning, then 8-3 after the fourth inning. By the end of the sixth, the Stars had a 13-6 advantage. SoHi then tacked on six runs in the seventh.

Andrew Pieh was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Stars, while Michael Schilling was 2 for 4 with three runs, Derrick Jones had three runs and two RBIs, Wyatt Gagnon had two runs, Levi Mickelson was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, Tucker Blough scored four runs, and Brenden Theel was 2 for 3 with three runs.

Theel gave up three runs — two earned — on three hits in four innings, while Pieh gave up three runs — two earned — on two hits in two innings, and Jones pitched a scoreless and hitless inning.

Preston Stanislaw scored three runs for Homer, while Christian Matthews had two RBIs.

On the mound, CJ Burns gave up four runs in an inning, Jayden Sims gave up four runs in 2 1-3 innings, Stanislaw gave up three runs in 1 2-3 innings, Malachi Raymond gave up four runs — two earned — in an inning, and Oak Anderson gave up two runs — one earned — without recording an out.
