Volleyball roundup: SoHi takes 2nd in Silver Bracket

The Soldotna volleyball team led Peninsula squads by taking second in the Silver Bracket at the West Spiketacular on Saturday.

The Stars finished 7-5 in pool play Friday to earn the spot in the Silver Bracket. Soldotna started bracket play by topping Bartlett 25-20 and 25-20, before defeating Lathrop 25-11 and 25-19 to reach the finals. There, SoHi lost to East 25-20 and 25-18.

Kenai Central also made the silver bracket by finishing 5-7 in pool play. The Kards tied for fifth in the bracket by losing the opening round game to Juneau 25-22, 21-25 and 16-14.

Nikiski was 1-11 in pool play to end up in the Bronze Bracket. The Bulldogs took fifth in the bracket by falling 19-25, 25-15 and 15-4 in the opening round.

Homer volleyball tops Seward

The visiting Homer volleyball conference notched a 3-1 victory over Seward on Saturday in Southcentral Conference volleyball play.

The Mariners move to 2-3 in league play with the 25-11, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-19 victory.

Coach Pam Rugloski said this was the first varsity match back for Mary Hana Bowe after an ankle injury, and she responded with some kills. The coach added PK Woo had great serves, McKi Needham was solid setting and Izabelle Hagge had a great match at libero.
