SoHi, Kenai, Homer complete Anchorage trip

The Soldotna hockey team wrapped up a 1-2 weekend in Anchorage with a 6-1 nonconference victory Saturday over Bartlett.

With the win, SoHi lifted its overall season record to 12-9-1.

Alex Montague helped fuel the Stars to the win with a hat trick, scoring goals at 6:39 of the first period, 4:21 of the second and completed the feat with 7:03 left in the third. Levi Hensley, Galen Brantley III and Cade Appelhans each scored once.

Bartlett opened the scoring with a goal from Cody Bell, six minutes, 27 seconds, into the game, but Montague notched the equalizer less than two minutes later.

In the second period, Hensley scored the go-ahead goal just 1:14 into the frame on a power play, and was followed by Brantley III, Montague and Appelhans to push the lead to 5-1.

SoHi goaltender Billy Yoder stopped 33 of 34 shots on goal to earn the win between the pipes.

Eagle River 7, Kenai 0

The host Wolves scored four goals in the first period and three goals in the third to notch a nonconference win Saturday.

Logan Dudinsky and Ben Rinckey each had a pair of goals for the Wolves. Ryan Williams made 41 saves for the Kardinals, while Chandler Annis had 14 saves for the shutout.

South 7, Homer 1

The Wolverines put away the Mariners in a nonconference bout Saturday in Anchorage. Dimitry Kuzmin scored the lone goal for Homer with an assist from Robbie Larson.

FRIDAY

Chugiak got four goals from Zachary Krajnik to topple Soldotna 7-0 Friday night in Chugiak.

Krajnik went on a scoring spree in the second period to open up a 1-0 game, scoring all three Mustangs goals in the period to distance Chugiak from SoHi, than adding a fourth with 2:45 left in the third.

Andrew Beckett also had a big night for Chugiak, scoring two goals and assisting on four others.

The Stars put 12 shots on Chugiak goaltender Eric Yancey but could not solve him. Billy Yoder stopped 30 of 37 shots on the other end of the ice.

East 7, Kenai 2

The Thunderbirds dropped the Kardinals on Friday night at East High with a big nonconference win.

West 3, Homer 0

The Eagles posted a nonconference shutout Friday at Ben Boeke Arena.

Corey Miscovich had a goal and an assist for West, while Garrett Bruner and Riley Sloane also lit the lamp. The Eagles won the shot count 22-5.
