Saturday hoops: Northern Lights, Southern conference tourneys wrap up

The Soldotna boys finished with a win, while the Soldotna girls finished with two losses, Saturday at the Northern Lights Tournament at Grace Christian in Anchorage.

The Soldotna boys defeated Mountain City Christian Academy 68-63 in overtime to avenge two previous losses to the Lions and finish the season at 10-17.

ACS led 15-10 after a quarter, 38-26 at the half and 49-39 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Izaiah Gilbert erupted for 20 of his squad’s 22 points as the Stars came back to tie it at 61. SoHi won the extra period 7-2.

According to SoHi head coach Darren Zibell, Gilbert ended his career with his first 40-point game, while Owen Buckbee and Damari Adams hit free throws to help ice the game.

Buckbee finished with 8, while Adams had 6, Bryan Berg and Easton Hawkins had 5, and Scottie Beiber and Theo Huff had 2.

For the Lions, Jaidhen Oyao had 25, Lukas Underhile and Stryder Kronberger had 12, Serge Duchatellier had 10, Sahli Howard had 3 and Jack Matthew had 1.

The Soldotna girls started the day by losing 64-19 to Mountain City Christian Academy.

For SoHi, Teagan Kobylarz and Hope Hillyer had 5, Anaulie Sedivy had 4, Brooke Walters and Cassidy Kruse had 2, and Juliet Innes had 1.

For MCCA, Keelie Kronberger had 20, Morgan Maldonado had 16, Jasmine Schaeffer had 10, Jayda Pastana had 9, Nyawouw Majiok had 4, Brooklynn Ridgeway had 3 and Nyatuong Majiok had 2.

The Stars then lost the fourth-place game to Palmer 34-31 to finish 11-17 overall and 2-3 against the Moose.

For SoHi, Sedivy had 8, Walters, Laurel Johnson and Innes had 6, Hillyer had 4 and Alyssa McDonald had 1.

For Palmer, Addy Wilson had 9, Grace Muilenberg had 8, Presley Wright and Jasmine Hephner had 6, Mariah Bothwell had 3 and Lillian Muilenberg had 2

In the cheerleading competition, Wasilla was first, Colony was second and Kodiak was third.

In the boys tourney, Wasilla was first, Palmer was second and Grace was third.

In the girls tourney, Colony was first, Wasilla was second and MCCA was third.

The Susitna Valley girls and boys basketball teams beat Unalaska on Friday in the second-place games to earn automatic berths to the Class 2A state tournament.

The Su Valley girls won 28-18, while the boys won 57-35.

The Seward girls and boys won conference titles Friday.
