Post 20 sweeps South

The American Legion Twins swept South on Saturday at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Twins move to 2-1 in the league and 3-2 with the victory over South, which recently won the Division I state high school title. The Wolverines are 0-2 and 2-3.

Post 20 stays at Soldotna Little League fields Sunday to face West in a league game at 12:30 p.m. and a nonleague game at 2:30 p.m.

The Twins won the first and league game, 6-5, by taking a big early lead and holding on. Post 20 took a 6-0 lead after the first two innings en route to the win.

Trenton Ohnemus, who recently pitched Soldotna to victory in the Division II state high school championship game, got the start and went 3 2-3 innings, giving up two unearned runs on a hit while walking one and striking out six.

Colby Sturman pitched the next 2 1-3 innings, giving up three runs — one earned — on four hits while striking out two.

Braden Smith closed it out with a scoreless and hitless inning, walking one.

Atticus Gibson got the Twins started in the first inning with a home run that scored Smith and Charlie Chamberlain.

The Twins had just three hits in the game, but were able to walk 10 times.

Post 20 won the second and nonleague game 7-6, taking an early lead again, but this time giving up the lead and mounting a big comeback to take the game.

The Twins were up 3-1 after after two innings, but South came back to tie it at 3 in the third. The Wolverines then had a 6-3 lead after the top of the sixth.

The Twins battled back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then walked off in the bottom of the seventh. The Twins loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, then Andrew Pieh singled to end the game.

Pieh, who finished 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs from the leadoff slot, also had keyed the rally in the sixth inning with a two-run homer.

Post 20 used five pitchers to get the victory.

Jace Crall pitched the first two innings, allowing a run on two hits while walking two and striking out one.

Gibson then gave up two runs on three hits in an inning.
