A pair of hockey players from the Kenai Peninsula have completed seasons at the NCAA Division I level.
Anna Shelden, a forward from Kenai, completed her fourth season of skating for Brown University, which is in Providence, Rhode Island.
Shelden appeared in 28 games and had five goals and five assists.
The Bears ended their season with a 2-0 loss to Union in the opening round of the ECAC playoffs. Brown finished 14-13-3 overall.
Shelden didn’t skate in her freshman season, because it was canceled due to the pandemic. In her sophomore season, and her first year skating for Brown, Shelden made the ECAC All-Academic Team, appearing in all 29 games and totaling two goals and three assists.
In her junior year, Shelden made the ECAC All-Academic Team and won the Most Improved Player Award. She appeared in all 29 games and had a goal and three assists.
In her senior year (2023-24), Shelden dressed in all 32 games and had two goals and three assists.
Freshman Trent Powell of Soldotna, a defenseman, completed his first season for Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.
Powell had two goals and 11 assists for the Sharks, who finished 20-12-2 for the most wins in program history. LIU also led the NCAA in home ice victories with a 14-1-0 record.
