The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 8-3 on Saturday at Mulcahy Field in Anchorage to snap a two-game losing streak.

The Oilers sit at 3-4 in the Alaska Baseball League, 2 1-2 games behind the American League-leading Anchorage Bucs.

The Oilers stay on the road today for a doubleheader against the Mat-Su Miners starting at 4 p.m.

Saturday, the Oilers were able to bang out 13 hits after being held to just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Pilots on Friday.

Josh Rose hit a pair of home runs for the Oilers, finishing 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs.

In a postgame radio interview on 1140 AM, Rose said he took a different approach at the plate Saturday.

“I was trying to hit low line drives, kind of hit something up the middle,” he said.

Jake Sandlin also had a big game from the leadoff spot, finishing 3 for 4 with two runs. Also for the Oilers, Alex Rubanowitz was 2 for 5 with a run and Nick Thurman was 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI.

On the mound, Sean Mason got the start. Mason said on the radio he didn’t have his best stuff, but he got through four innings, allowing just a run and a hit while striking out six and walking four.

Chad Rieser then allowed two runs and two hits in four innings, walking three and striking out five.

Jeff Paschke pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Friday, the Oilers were done in by quiet bats.

Peninsula was held to just three hits in the game, with two of them coming from Sandlin. Sandlin knocked in the lone run of the game for the Oilers in the eighth inning, with AJ Hernandez scoring after reaching on a double.

Other than that, Pilots pitchers had their way. Joe Adel pitched the first three innings and gave up just one hit, Johnny York worked the next five innings and gave up a run and a hit in picking up the win, and Cameron Pongs pitched the ninth for the save.

The Oilers also were solid on the hill. Nick Rogowski got the start and loss, pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and two runs while striking out eight.

Cody Richey gave up a pair of runs in 1-3 inning of relief, while Nolan Sheridan did not give up any runs in 2-3 of an inning.

Kevin Viers had the big game on offense for the Pilots, finishing with a home run, two runs and two RBIs.
