Nikolaevsk wins Mix Six state volleyball title

Nikolaevsk won the Mix Six volleyball state championship Saturday at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

The Warriors defeated Tanalian 30-28 in the if-necessary game to garner the title.

Friday, Nikolaevsk had defeated Alakanuk 2-0 and Buckland 3-0 to advance to a Saturday semifinal against Tanalian. The Warriors lost that match 3-2, but earned a spot in the final by topping Gustavus 2-0 coming out of the losers bracket.

In the championship match against Tanalian, Nikolaevsk won 3-2 to set up the if-necessary game.
