Nikolaevsk girls, boys open own tourney with wins

The host Nikolaevsk girls and boys basketball teams opened the ConocoPhillips/Warrior Rumble with victories Thursday.

The Nikolaevsk girls notched a 41-25 victory over Kalskag, taking a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and a 30-13 lead at halftime.

Elizabeth Fefelov had 15 points to lead Nikolaevsk. Julia Heckman paced Kalskag with 18 points.

In the early girls game, Tanalian topped Birchwood Christian 30-29 in overtime. Kaia Beebe had 17 points for Tanalian, while Katie McGee added 11. For Birchwood Christian, Faith Clark had 10 points.

In the early boys game, Birchwood Christian notched a 62-52 victory over Tanalian. Bradley Nunley poured in 27 points for Birchwood Christian, while Joel Swanberg had 14 and Dalton Rogers added 13. For Tanalian, Trevor McGee had 20 points and Coleson Voran added 13 points.

The Nikolaevsk boys topped Kalskag 65-38, taking an 18-8 lead after a quarter and a 31-17 lead at halftime.

Zachary Trail and Michael Trail each had 15 for the Warriors, while Justin Trail pitched in 10. For Kalskag, Harvey Levi had 11 points.

Friday, the Kalskag girls play Tanalian at 2:45 p.m., the Kalskag boys play Tanalian at 4:15 p.m., the Nikolaevsk girls play Birchwood Christian at 5:45 p.m., and the Nikolaevsk boys play Birchwood Christian at 7:45 p.m.

Saturday, the Birchwood Christian and Kalskag girls play at 9 a.m., the Birchwood Christian and Kalskag boys play at 10:30 a.m., the Nikolaevsk and Tanalian girls play at noon and the Nikolaevsk and Tanalian boys play at 1:30 p.m.
