The Nikiski girls and boys basketball teams opened their season with a pair of nonconference losses at Mt. Edgecumbe on Wednesday.
The Nikiski girls took a 53-25 loss to Mt. Edgecumbe. The Braves took control of the game with an 18-0 first quarter.
Ember Nelson and Shelby Burman paced the Bulldogs with seven points, while Avery White had four, Maggie Grenier had three, and Savanna Stock and Emma Weeks had two apiece.
Carliesa O’Brien poured in 19 for Mt. Edgecumbe, while Tessa Anderson added 10.
The Braves boys notched an 81-37 victory over the Bulldogs. Seth Payne paced the Bulldogs with 18 points.
