Monday: Oilers fall to Bucs for 6th straight loss

The Peninsula Oilers dropped a 2-0 decision to the Anchorage Bucs on Monday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage in Alaska Baseball League play.

The Oilers have now lost the first six games of an eight-game, seven-day road trip.

Peninsula, at 16-17, has fallen five games off the pace, just one game ahead of the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at 13-16. The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are last at 10-22.

The Pilots can move into a tie for third place when the two teams face off Tuesday, July 23, at 3 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium. The Oilers then end the road trip Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the Chinooks at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.

The Oilers’ struggles on offense on the road trip continued against the Bucs. Peninsula has scored more than three runs just once on the trip.

Against the Bucs, four pitchers combined to hold the Oilers to five hits while recording 15 strikeouts.

Wyatt Halvorson went four innings, giving up three hits while walking two and striking out nine.

Jeremiah Arnett worked the next three, giving up a hit, a walk and striking out four. Adam Enyart gave up a hit in an inning while striking out one, while Andrew Rudd walked two in an inning while striking out one.

Oilers pitchers also were solid. Mose Hayes, of Homer High School and Post 20 Twins fame, battled through six innings. Hayes was able to work around five hits and five walks while giving up one run. He struck out five.

Seth Wrighstone went two innings, giving up an unearned run on a hit while walking two and striking out one.

Zakary Farris was 2 for 4 for the Oilers. Ryan Callahan and Brody Briggs were 2 for 4 for the Bucs.
