Hoops roundup: SoHi girls, Kenai boys move to 5-0

The host Soldotna girls moved to 5-0 by defeating Kenai 54-35 on Tuesday. The Kardinals fall to 2-3.

The Stars took command from the outset, winning the first quarter 17-4. Morgan Bouschor had 21 points to lead SoHi, while Josie Sheridan had 10 and Rhys Cannava had eight.

Emma Beck paced the Kardinals by pouring in 24 points.

Kenai boys 43, Soldotna 38

The Kardinals moved to 5-0 by beating Soldotna for the second time this season. The Stars fall to 0-2.

Kenai topped SoHi 55-52 in overtime on Jan. 21. This time, the Kards took a 25-17 lead into halftime and held on in the second half.

Jacob Kvasnikoff had nine points for the Kards, while Bridger Beck had eight.

Ethan Sewell led the Stars with 15 points.

Homer girls 55, Nikiski 25

The host Mariners won their third straight to improve their record to 3-2. Nikiski falls to 2-3.

Both teams had opened up their season with a 36-33 contest that went to the Bulldogs on Jan. 21, but the tables turned Tuesday in the second half. Homer went into the second half leading 19-16 before dominating the last 16 minutes 36-9.

Delilah Harris had 14 points to lead Homer, while Hannah Hatfield had 10 points and Sailey Rhodes had eight points.

For Nikiski, Lillian Carstens had 12 points.

Homer boys 50, Nikiski 29

The host Mariners moved to 4-1 by topping the Bulldogs for the second time this season. Nikiski falls to 1-4.

Homer led 16-13 at halftime, but won the second half of the game 34-16.

Clayton Beachy had 20 points to pace the Mariners, while Josiah Raymond had 12 and Eyoab Knapp dumped in 10.

Drew Handley had 12 points to pace the Bulldogs.
