Hoops roundup: Kenai boys, SoHi girls stay perfect

The visiting Kenai Central girls basketball team evened its record at 3-3 with a 48-43 victory over Nikiski on Thursday.

The Kardinals defeated the Bulldogs for the second time this season. Nikiski falls to 2-4.

After Avery White cut Kenai’s lead to 45-41 late in the fourth quarter, Erin Koziczkowski, who had 14 points, made it 46-41 with a free throw.

White cut it to 46-43 with six seconds to play. With 4.2 seconds left, Emilee Wilson scored her only two points of the game with two foul shots that sealed the game.

Emma Beck paced the Kardinals with 18 points, while Logan Satathite added 10.

For Nikiski, Lillian Carstens poured in 26 points, while White added nine.

Kenai boys 69, Nikiski 45

The visiting Kardinals moved to 6-0 by topping the Bulldogs for the second time this season. Nikiski falls to 1-5.

Kenai took a 21-9 lead after the first quarter and 43-19 lead at the half employing a balanced attack.

Maison Dunham had 18 points, while Bridger Beck had 14, Jordan Kvasnikoff had 12, Lucas Tunseth had 11 and Jacob Kvasnikoff had 10.

For Nikiski, Austin Stafford had 18, while Brady Bostic had 12.

Soldotna girls 55, Seward 26

The Stars moved to 6-0 by taking down the visiting Seahawks.

Seward fell to 0-5, but improved on a 49-11 loss to SoHi on Jan. 23.

Josie Sheridan had 19 points to lead Soldotna, while Rhys Cannava and Drysta Crosby-Schneider added 10 points apiece.

For Seward, Shelby Siemanski had 11 points, while Anevay Ambrosiani had eight points.

Soldotna boys 59, Seward 32

The host Stars picked up their first victory of the season in comfortable fashion against the Seahawks.

Soldotna moves to 1-5 and avenges a 48-33 loss to Seward on Jan. 23. Seward falls to 2-3.

SoHi was in total control, leading 14-6 after a quarter and 32-10 at halftime.

Ethan Sewell paced the Stars with 28 points, while Jakob Brown added 11. For Seward, Trey Ingalls had 12 and Max Pfeiffenberger added eight.
