The Kenai girls, Soldotna girls and boys, and Ninilchik boys opened up their seasons with victories at the Craig Jung Kenai River Challenge on Thursday at Kenai Central High School.

The Soldotna girls topped Homer 49-24, while the Soldotna boys topped Homer 54-33. Both Homer teams were filling in at the last minute for Houston, which couldn’t make it down Thursday due to school closures.

The Kenai girls defeated Ninilchik 61-22. Ninilchik was filling in for South, which also couldn’t make it down Thursday. The Ninilchik boys defeated Kenai 52-51.

The Kenai girls received 28 points from Emma Beck in topping the Wolverines. Also for Kenai, Ella Yragui had eight, Emilee Wilson had six, Mycka Phillips had five, Rylie Sparks and Chloe Goldsby had four, Sierra Hershberger and Madison Malone had two, and Grace Kahn and Malerie Nunn had one. For Ninilchik, Riley Tucker had 17 and Taylor Rickard had five.

The Stars girls received 13 points apiece from Katelyn Morrison and Josie Sheridan, 11 points from Morgan Lemm, six points from Tanner Inman, four points from Anaulie Sedivy and two from Annie Burns. For Homer, Minadora Reutov had 12, Lawson Alexson-Walls had five, Hannah Stonorov had three, and Lillie Mae Kuhn and Bethany Engebretsen each had two.

The Stars boys received 13 from Jakob Brown, 10 apiece from Zac Buckbee and Izaiah Gilbert, six each from Lokeni Wong and Andrew Pieh, four from Will Inman, three from Jace O’Reagan and two from Eli Corbett. For Homer, Trent Fell had 11, Riley Huffman had eight, Nathan Overson had six, Lucas Story had three, Einar Pederson had two and Lance Seneff had one.

For the Ninilchik boys, Jaylin Scott had 23, Colvin Moore had 22, Kade McCorison had three, and Rowan Mahoney and Peyton Edens each had two. For the Kenai boys, Jakob Kvasnikoff had 17, Daniel McRorie had 13, Bridger Beck had eight, Wade James had eight, Roc Riggle had three, Luke Armstrong had two and Carnell Gump had two.

Cook Inlet Academy Coca Cola Classic Tournament

At the Coca Cola Classic Tournament at Cook Inlet Academy, the Nikiski JV girls defeated Kenai JV 25-17, the Homer JV boys defeated Kenai JV 50-42, the CIA girls defeated SoHi JV 49-30 and the CIA boys defeated SoHi JV 39-27.

Sitka High School Coastal Holiday Shootout

The Nikiski girls and boys both lost Thursday at the Sitka High School Coastal Holiday Shootout.

The Nikiski girls took a 52-22 loss to Sitka. Savanna Stock and Avery White each had five for the Bulldogs, while Maggie Grenier, Ember Nelson and Kailey Stynsberg had four.

The Nikiski boys took a 75-45 loss to Sitka. Seth Payne paced the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Charlie Chamberlain had nine, Braeden Porter had eight, Drew Handley had six, and Carter Eiter and David Weathers each had two.
