The host Homer baseball team moved to 3-6 in the Southcentral Conference and 3-12 overall with an 11-3 victory over Kenai on Saturday. The Kards fall to 2-7 overall and in league.

Harrison Metz just missed a perfect game for Homer. Homer was leading 10-0 heading to the top of the fifth and Metz hadn’t allowed a base runner.

However, Charlie Chamberlain reached on a throwing error for Kenai and scored on another error, prolonging the game. Homer also didn’t score in the bottom of the fifth, which would have given Metz a no-hitter.

Metz pitched 6 1-3 innings, giving up two hits and three runs before reaching his pitch count. Gabe Dash got the final two outs, one on a strikeout.

For Homer, Metz was 1 for 4, Coda Wood was 1 for 3, Malachi Raymond was 2 for 4, Dash was 1 for 2, Jack Strydom was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Liam Houlihan was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

For Kenai, Wes Katzenberger gave up six hits and eight runs in three innings. Gabe Smith pitched two innings and gave up a run and a hit. Nick Wehrstein, Caleb Smith and Brady Bostic had hits for Kenai.

The host Stars fell to 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the league with the Saturday loss.

The game was tied after three, with Kodiak pushing across runs in the fourth and fifth innings. SoHi then pushed one run across in the bottom of the seventh.

Josh Pieh pitched the first four innings for SoHi, allowing four runs — three earned — on five hits while whiffing two and walking one.

Derrick Jones pitched the final three, giving up a run on a hit while walking three and striking out one.

Josh Pieh had two of SoHi’s five hits, while Atticus Gibson had three RBIs and Daltyn Deborski had two runs.

Soldotna 10, Kodiak 2

The Stars moved to 8-7 overall and 7-2 in the league with the victory.
