Hockey roundup: Homer, Soldotna net wins

Alden Ross used a hat trick to help Division II Homer score a nonconference road win over Division I Wasilla Thursday night at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla. Ross netted Homer’s first three goals during the 6-3 victory over Wasilla.

The Mariners also tallied three unanswered goals in the win. Austin Shafford provided the eventual game-winner with 7:32 left in the second. Tyler Gilliand and Phinny Wetson added goals in the third.

Colin Goff led Wasilla with two goals and an assist.

South 7, Kenai Central 1

The Wolverines notched a nonconference victory over the Kardinals on Thursday at Ben Boeke in Anchorage.

South had a 6-0 lead by the time Jacob Begich notched a power-play goal with 3:23 left in the game. Assists went to Daniel Shelden and Caden Warren.

Lucas Wilcox had a hat trick for South, while Hayden Fox bagged two goals.

Thomas Baker made 32 saves for the Kardinals, while Vaughn Makar stopped nine for South.

Soldotna 7, Houston 1

The visiting Stars cruised to a Railbelt Conference victory Thursday in Houston.

Dave Aley had a pair of goals for the Stars, while Wyatt Medcoff, Galen Brantley III, Silas Larsen, Trent Powell and Alex Montague also found the back of the net.

Briar Books, Medcoff, Dylan Walton, Dylan Dahlgren, Gavin Haakenson, Aiden Burnham and Powell added assists.

Josh Tree made eight saves on nine shots.
