Chugiak wins Bash on the Bay softball tournament in Homer

The Chugiak softball team defeated Soldotna 8-1 in the Saturday championship game of the Bash on the Bay tournament in Homer.

The Mustangs won the tournament for the fourth straight year.

The Stars (14-5-1 overall) could not overcome a seven-run outburst by the Mustangs in the second inning of the three-inning game.

Kathryn DeBardelaben gave up eight runs — seven earned — on six hits in 2 2-3 innings for SoHi. Alyssa McDonald led at the plate by going 2 for 2 with a run.

The Kenai softball team is 10-10 after finishing third by defeating Bartlett 12-11 in a game that lasted two innings.

Kennah Gregory gave up 10 runs — seven earned — on three hits in 1 2-3 innings, while Avery Ellis gave up an unearned run in recording an out.

Ellis had two runs and two RBIs at the plate, while Seylor Tomrdle had three RBIs and EmmaLee Elordi, Isabel Thomas and Gregory all scored twice.

Homer is 5-13 after defeating Redington 5-4 for fifth place.

The game went 3 1-2 innings, with Homer leading 5-4 after the second inning. Keagan Niebuhr went all four for Homer, giving up four runs on three hits.

At the plate for the Mariners, Jessica Plumlee was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Amakah Stineff was 2 for 2 with two runs, and Niebuhr was 2 for 2.

In the semifinals, Chugiak defeated Kenai 17-1 and Soldotna topped Bartlett 12-10.

In the Chugiak-Kenai semi, Elordi and Tomrdle had hits for the Kards, while Thomas had a run and Caitlyn Crapps had an RBI.

In the four-inning Soldotna-Bartlett semi, the Stars scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to win it, including a grand slam by McDonald, who was 2 for 3 with a run and four RBIs.

Tatum Cooper had a home run and was 1 for 3 with a run and three RBIs, while Isabella Gares had two runs, Isabelle Cruz was 2 for 4, Lilly Dawley had three runs and DeBardelaben had two runs.

Cruz pitched all four innings and gave up nine runs — five earned — on seven hits.

In the first games of the day, Kenai defeated Redington 15-5 and Bartlett defeated Homer 9-0.

The Kenai game went two innings, with Blakeley Jorgensen giving up five unearned runs on three hits.

Tomrdle was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, while Jorgensen was 2 for 3 with two runs, and Love Carter-Hendriks was 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs. Crapps had two runs and four RBIs, while Caitlyn Burnett had two runs and Kaylauna Gump had two RBIs.

The Homer game went four innings. The Mariners didn’t record a hit, and Niebuhr gave up nine runs — three earned — on seven hits.
