Monday: Kenai soccer sweeps Homer

The visiting Kenai Central soccer teams swept Homer on Monday in Peninsula Conference action, with the girls winning 7-1 and the boys winning 3-0.

The Kardinals girls are 3-0 in the league and 10-2 overall, while the Mariners girls are 0-4 and 2-6. The Kards boys are 2-1-1 and 8-4-2, while the Mariners boys are 1-3-1 and 3-4-1.

In the girls game, Brynnen Hanson paced the Kardinals with two goals, while Ellee Pancoast, Sarah Baisden, Kate Wisnewski, Lylah Smith and Christine Goering added tallies.

Talia Weisser, assisted by Katelyn Marroquin, scored for Homer.

In the boys game, Bradley Morrison posted the shutout for Kenai.

The goals were Ryker Dykema assisted by Zane James, James assisted by Cole Langham and Dykema unassisted.

Kenai head coach Shane Lopez said his squad was able to control a lot of the possession in the midfield. He added James and Reid Titus had a great game on the wings, tracking back on defense and getting forward in the attack.

“They were the better team tonight,” Homer coach Tyler Jeffres wrote in a text message.
