Nikiski teen dies in ATV crash

The youth was driving a four-wheeler on Old Halbouty Road.

A Nikiski teenager is dead after crashing his ATV on Monday, according to a Tuesday dispatch from the Alaska State Troopers.

Skylar Thomas Lyon, 14, was driving a four-wheeler on Old Halbouty Road in Nikiski when he went off the road and struck a tree, troopers said.

Troopers responded to the incident at about 7:56 p.m. on Monday and found Lyon seriously injured. Lyon was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital, where was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Next of kin was present when the crash occurred, and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
