Events and Exhibitions

■ “A Tale of Four Cities,” and exhibition of work by Nicole Lopez, is on display in the Gary Freeburg Gallery at Kenai Peninsula College through Dec. 10. A closing reception is scheduled for 4:30-6 p.m. Dec. 10.

■ The Redoubt Flute Studio Winter Concert 2015 is Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Soldotna Christ Lutheran Church (admission is free). The program includes flute solos/duets and chamber music ensembles, works by Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Telemann, etc. and holiday music.

■ The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra presents “An Evening of Christmas,” Dec. 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the KCHS auditorium. This is a fun-filled evening full of holiday songs and audience sing-alongs. Performing groups include the Redoubt Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Tammy Vollom-Matturro, the Peninsula Singers under the direction of Simon Nissen, The Central Peninsula Community Orchestra under the direction of Mellisa Nill, and the Peninsula Jazz Band. Tickets are available at the door, $15 general admission, all youth 18 and under are free.

■ “This Hope” will be performing at Soldotna Bible Chapel on Dec. 14, at 7:00 p.m.

■ The Soldotna Bible Chapel will be having a Christmas concert on Dec. 20 at 6:00 p.m. The concert will feature the adult choir, as well as, hand bells, and a children’s choir.

■ The Soldotna Church of God, at the corner of Redoubt and Binkley, hosts a heartwarming play about the spirit of giving Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. Written and directed by one of Soldotna’s own, come and see if Christmas Carol gets “A Home for Christmas.”

■ The Homer-based Whirling Rainbow Foundation and Grandmother Drum International Peace Project will have a fundraising CD release concert at the Sterling Community Center from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 20 for its newest CD, “Holy Ground.” This CD was recorded in 8 countries and 15 locations and unites many cultures through sacred music. ■ The Klimpke Christmas light display is back up to view through Jan. 1, 2016. Viewing times are 5:00-10:30 p.m. Santa will be making his appearances Dec. 20-23 from 6-8 p.m. You will be able to meet Comet and Crash the reindeer on the Dec. 23 from 6-8. Directions are: South Miller Loop or North Miller Loop to Blueberry Avenue, fourth drive on the right. For more information call John at 398-3756.

■ Peninsula Art Guild presents “Take Me Deeper,” a show about worship featuring artists Sharon Heselius, Rene Gervais, Stephanie Alward, Joy Alexander, Rick Cupp, Moira Ireland, Lori Sisson, Dot Hagen-May, and Cyndye Brower. This show is worship-based art in multiple mediums. Also on display is the annual KFAC Student Show containing works from Kenai Peninsula Borough students in a wide variety of mediums. The Kenai Fine Art Center and all galleries are open from noon-5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, manned by volunteer artist participation. Call 907-283-7040 for further information.

■ Veronica’s in Old Town Kenai has open mic at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, live music with “Just We Two,” Barbara Anderson and Lee Johnson, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and live music with Kelsey Shields, Katie (Darling) Tallent, Katie Evans and Shannon Darling at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. ■ The Kasilof Pinochle Club meets at Hooligan’s in Soldotna from mid-October to mid-April Saturdays from noon-5 p.m. Bring your own partner as the club plays team partnerships. Anyone interested in playing can call Jay at 907-252-6397.

■ Beginning square dance classes will be held on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. at the Sterling Senior Center. Classes are open to participants of all ages. For more information, call Theresa Lusby at 360-790-1757, or the Sterling Senior Center at 907-262-6808.

■ A bluegrass jam takes place on the first Sunday of the month at from 1-4 p.m. at the Mount Redoubt Baptist Church on South Lovers Loop in Nikiski.

■ The Flats Bistro on Kalifornsky Beach Road has live music with Garrett Mayer on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Raymond Machen-Gray on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

■ An all acoustic jam takes place every Thursday. The jam is at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on the first Thursday of the month, and at the Kenai Senior Center during the rest of the month. Jam starts at 6:30 p.m.

■ AMVETS Post 4 is open to all military veterans and their families for support and camaraderie. Join us for Friday night tacos, or Saturday night steaks with Karaoke. Sunday afternoon it’s super hamburgers. Sharpen your dart skills with a fun tournament every Sunday during the season. The number of players will determine the game. Sign up begins at 1 p.m. Not a member? Stop by and we can show you how to become a part of this special veteran’s organization. AMVETS is located in the Red Diamond Center next door to IDEA Schools. ■ Odie’s Deli in Soldotna has live music Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Pub Quiz night every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

■ The Bow bar in Kenai has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays and live music Fridays, Saturdays at 10 p.m.

■ Hooligans Saloon in Soldotna has poker Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m. and live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

■ The Duck Inn on Kalifornsky Beach Road has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and DJ Arisen on Saturdays.

■ Mykel’s in Soldotna has live music Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. with Bob Ramponi and Dave Unruh.

■ The Soldotna library hosts a board game night on Tuesdays from 5-7:45 p.m. in the conference rooms, 235 N. Binkley Street. It’s time to get your game on! Have you ever wanted to try something other than another round of Monopoly, or to break out of that old Scrabble routine? Come ready to meet new people, engage your imagination, and have a great time.
