Kenai potters to hold annual holiday sale

The annual Christmas sale is one of two big sales held by the Potters Guild annually

The Kenai Potters Guild will hold their annual Christmas sale this Saturday at the Kenai Art Center.

Guild President Debbie Adamson said a variety of pottery seconds from local potters will be on offer.

Seconds are the products that didn’t turn out exactly as planned, Adamson said. Quality ceramic goods, “still beautiful,” but not what the potter wanted.

For that reason, “these are the best prices” on quality pottery to be found, Adamson said. She explained that pottery is traditionally fairly pricey because there’s so much time and work that has to go into it.

The annual Christmas sale is one of two big sales held by the Potters Guild annually, the other being a Mother’s Day sale.

Both sales are exciting, Adamson said, with people lining up outside before the opening. That line is a little longer for the Mother’s Day sale, because the temperatures are warmer, but Adamson said the sale will be something to look forward to.

Pottery is “beloved by people of all generations,” Adamson said. Despite winter temperatures, the pottery sale this weekend will be a “joyful place” to pick up some Christmas gifts. Coming to the sale also affords the opportunity to feel the ceramic products before purchasing.

“If you’re buying a mug, you have to hold it and feel it, put your hands around it,” Adamson said. “It needs to feel right in your hand. When it does, you know that’s the one for you.”

Funds raised in the sale will be used for purchasing clay and other materials, paying rent and keeping the lights on, and for bringing in teachers to host workshops.

The Pottery Sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Kenai Art Center in Old Town Kenai on Saturday. More information can be found on the Kenai Art Center Facebook page.
