The Kenai and Homer volleyball teams opened up play Thursday at the Southeast Super Slamma Jamma in Sitka.
The tournament, which has nine teams, is using Thursday and Friday pool play to seed Saturday bracket play.
After the first day, Mt. Edgecumbe is 8-0, Kenai is 6-0, Thunder Mountain is 5-1, Palmer is 4-4, Ketchikan is 4-4, Sitka is 2-4, Nome is 2-6, Homer is 1-7 and Juneau-Douglas: Yadda.at Kale is 0-6.
The Kardinals topped Sitka 25-16, 25-18, topped Ketchikan 25-14, 25-17 and topped Homer 25-16, 25-7.
In addition to losing to Kenai, Homer beat Ketchikan 25-20, lost to Ketchikan 25-21, lost to Mt. Edgecumbe 25-12, 25-20, and lost to Sitka 25-17, 25-20.
Soldotna JV wins at Cook Inlet Academy
The Soldotna junior varsity volleyball team won a nonconference match at Cook Inlet Academy on Thursday by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-17.
