The Soldotna girls recorded another shutout to gain their sixth win of the season in as many games, beating Ketchikan 7-0 Thursday at Soldotna High School.

The Stars, playing their second of four straight games, took control early with four goals in the first half.

“I think we’ve seen what they’re capable of,” said SoHi coach Jimmy Love. “There’s been a lull at times when they play a team we don’t know much about, and we had a rough beginning today, but they managed to get on track.”

Sophomore Olivia Conradi notched a hat trick, scoring goals in the 10th, 22nd and 49th minutes, and sophomore Alyssa Wolfe scored twice, in the 14th and 38th minutes.

The Stars struck first in the 10th minute with a successful corner kick taken by senior Julie Litchfield that was converted by Conradi. Wolfe then scored four minutes later with assists from sister Kylee Wolfe and Alex Ashe.

Skylar Shaw provided the assist for Conradi’s second goal in the 22nd minute, and did the same for Wolfe’s second goal as well, delivering another corner kick goal.

Sophomore Brianna Bennett and junior Alex Ashe scored a goal each in the 71st and 77th minutes, respectively, to finish the game. Ashe converted on another corner kick from Kylee Wolfe, Soldotna’s third of the game.

Love said he was pleased to see the corner kick opportunities working so well, since the team had been working relentlessly on such situations.

Soldotna boys 2, Ketchikan 1

Ty Fenton scored the game-winner late in regulation to give the Stars a victory over the Kings on Thursday.

Fenton, who had the lone goal against Homer on Wednesday, scored in the 78th minute after Ketchikan had equalized earlier in the second half. Fenton scored on an assist from Dylan Kuntz.

“You never know what they’re going to bring,” said SoHi coach Jeff Siemers. “They’re down in the Southeast, so it’s tough sometimes.”

Drew Kant scored Soldotna’s initial goal in the 25th minute that resulted in a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Daniel McElroy manned Soldotna’s goal for the first time this year, providing Kayne North some rest, and made the most of it with his 6-foot-5 frame.

The win improves SoHi’s season mark to 3-2-1 heading into today’s match with Wasilla, the team that ended the Stars’ season at the state tournament in 2013.

“Our guys will be up for that game,” Siemers said. “It’ll be good to get those guys going against Wasilla. A lot of them are the same guys from last year.”

Houston girls 3, Skyview 0

The Hawks took a win on the road against the Panthers Thursday in Northern Lights Conference play.

The Panthers tried out three different goalkeepers in the match, starting with Mandee Lawson. Ciara Mahan was brought in late in the first half, and Taylor Wilson finished it out. Each player gave up one goal.

The loss drops Skyview to 0-5 on the year.

Skyview 2, Houston 0

The Panthers notched their first win of the season, defeating the host Hawks on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference play.

Mason Castagnier scored first for the Panthers in the 15th minute, and Chilean exchange student Mauro Lotito added a goal in the 50th minute.

“The kids are very happy,” said Skyview coach Jake Eveland. “It’s one of those things, we were kinda worried that it would never come. Now they’re focused on continuing to improve this weekend.”

The team improved to a 1-4 season record.

Nikiski vs. Wasilla

Due to the school lockout, all Nikiski after-school activities were canceled.
