Thursday: Twins split with Service

The American Legion Post 20 Twins split with Service on Thursday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai to move to 1-1 in the league and 2-1 overall.

The Twins will continue their homestand Friday when they face West in a noon doubleheader, with the first game the league game.

Post 20 dropped the league game to Service 13-3 in five innings, with the Cougars pushing across nine runs in the third inning.

Matthew Schilling got the start and gave up 10 runs — nine earned — on six hits in 2 1-3 innings. Jack Harper gave up three runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, while Gavin Peterson pitched a scoreless and hitless two innings.

At the plate, Schilling had a hit and a run, Peterson had a hit and a run, Ari Miller had a hit and an RBI, and Clyde Clemens had a hit and an RBI.

The Twins were able to bounce back in the second game for a 10-6 victory in seven innings. Post 20 scored six runs in the second inning to take an 8-2 lead.

The Twins used five pitchers in the game. Clemens gave up two unearned runs on two hits in two innings, Malakai BeDunnah gave up two runs on four hits in 1 2-3 innings, Jett Brophy pitched a scoreless and hitless inning, Tristen Roberts gave up two runs — one earned — in 1 1-3 innings, and Jayden Stuyvesant pitched a scoreless and hitless inning.

Jacob Joanis was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Twins, while Schilling had three runs, and Stuyvesant and Roberts each had a pair of RBIs.
