Thursday soccer: Kenai, SoHi girls, boys reach tourney semifinals

The Kenai Central, Grace Christian, Wasilla and Soldotna girls advanced to the semifinals of the Homer Soccer Tourney, and the Wasilla, Soldotna, Ketchikan and Kenai boys advanced to the semifinals of the Kenai Invitational Cup, on Thursday in soccer play on the Kenai Peninsula.

In the first round of the Kenai Invitational, Wasilla defeated Homer 1-0, Soldotna defeated Redington 10-0, Ketchikan defeated Grace Christian 6-0 and Kenai defeated Kodiak 3-0.

Friday at the tournament, the semifinals are Wasilla and Soldotna at 4 p.m., and Kenai and Ketchikan at 6 p.m. In consolation play, Homer plays Redington at noon and Grace plays Kodiak at 2 p.m.

In the first round of the Homer Soccer Tourney, Kenai defeated Redington 11-0, Soldotna defeated Homer 2 10-0, Wasilla defeated Ketchikan 7-0 and Grace stopped Homer 2-1 in penalty kicks.

Friday at the tournament, the semifinals are Kenai vs. Grace at 3 p.m. and Wasilla vs. Soldotna at 5 p.m. Consolation play is Redington vs. Homer at 7 p.m. and Ketchikan vs. Homer 2 at 1 p.m.

In the Soldotna-Redington boys match, SoHi head coach Erik Dolphin wrote he played his core varsity group for 55 minutes and was able to improve to 3-1. Luke Hillyer had the shutout.

In the first half, Trae Pitsch scored on a Lane Hillyer assist, Hillyer scored on a Simon Willets assist, Willets scored on a Hillyer assist and Willets scored unassisted.

In the second half, Daniel Heath scored unassisted, Johnny Wardas scored on a penalty kick, Harold Rudstrom scored unassisted, Heath scored on a header on a ball from Trevin Moore, Pitsch scored unassisted and Bryan Berg scored unassisted.

In the Wasilla-Homer boys match, goalie Walden Krazeski and the Mariners defense held the Warriors to a goal, but it was not enough as Homer fell to 0-1-1 overall.

In the Kenai-Kodiak match, Bradley Morrison had the shutout as the Kardinals moved to 3-0-1 overall.

Sawyer Vann scored twice, assisted by Lucas Swanson and Carter Felchle. Ryker Dykema also found the back of the net for the Kards.

In the Kenai-Redington girls match, Maddie Malone had the shutout as the Kardinals moved to 3-0 overall.

Christine Goering pumped in five goals for Kenai, while Katie Johnson and Brynnen Hanson each had two, and Kate Wisnewski and Tait Cooper each added strikes.

In the Soldotna-Homer 2 girls match, Ryan Queen had the shutout as the Stars moved to 1-2 overall.

The goals were Jillian Duncan assisted by Teagen Kobylarz and Kendra Rose, Rowan Peck assisted by Sadie Lane and Jazzalynn McDonald, Duncan assisted by Mykah Walgenbach and Kobylarz, Lane assisted by Alexis Verba and Duncan, McDonald assisted by Peck and Duncan, Duncan assisted by Lane, Emma Glassmaker unassisted, Duncan assisted by Glassmaker, Verba assisted by Lane and Keely Sundberg, and Valerie McAnelly unassisted.

In the Homer-Grace match, Talia Weisser had the lone goal for the Mariners as they fell to 1-2.
