SoHi freshman Jedlicki wins Colony Invite

Soldotna freshman Sophia Jedlicki won the girls varsity race at the Colony Invitational on Saturday, while Homer senior Seamus McDonough finished second in the boys race.

Jedlicki stopped the clock at 19 minutes, 47 seconds, for her first varsity victory. Colony’s Ella Hopkins was second at 20:06.

SoHi and Colony are both Division I schools. In third place, Seward junior Hailey Ingalls led Division II runners by running 20:13 to top Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra. Boonstra, who was won the last two Division II state titles, was fourth at 20:20. Also in the top 10 for the peninsula were Soldotna’s Tania Boonstra in sixth at 21:07 and Kenai’s Emilee Wilson in ninth at 21:51.

Colony won the girls team battle with 34 points, while Soldotna was second at 49, Homer was third at 61, Grace Christian was fourth at 100, Glennallen was fifth at 128, Bethel was sixth at 162 and Palmer was seventh at 206.

Also for the SoHi girls, Annie Burns was 12th at 22:17, Laurel Johnson was 21st at 23:01, Delainie Wagers was 24th at 23:16, Kaytlin McAnelly was 25th at 23:17 and Megan Whittom was 28th at 23:25.

For the Homer girls, Daisy Walker was 11th at 22:06, Claira Booz was 13th at 22:19, Eryn Field was 15th at 22:39, Elena Badajos was 19th at 22:53, Frida Renner was 22nd at 23:02, Beatrix McDonough was 31st at 23:41 and Leah Dunn was 57th at 26:45.

Also for Kenai, Emily Moss was 26th in 23:17 and Mya Taylor was 53rd in 26:27. Also for Seward, Aly Guernsey was 17th in 22:49 and Stella Dow was 49th in 25:40.

In the boys race, Grace’s David Sliwinski ran 16:03 to top McDonough by seven seconds.

Colony, with four runners in the top seven, won the team battle at 35, while Grace was second at 38, Homer was third at 74, Soldotna was fourth at 126, Palmer was fifth at 136, Wasilla was sixth at 137, Kenai was seventh at 181 and Bethel was eighth at 197.

Also for Homer, Lance Seneff was 12th in 17:31, Theodore McDonough was 20th in 18:22, Ethan Styvar was 22nd in 18:36, Jonah Mershon was 24th in 18:40, Jody Goodrich was 29th in 18:53 and Caleb Bunker was 32nd in 19:06.

For Soldotna, Jacob Strausbaugh was 18th in 18:08, Jonathan Gordon was 21st in 18:33, Noble Cassidy was 27th in 18:52, Finnley Loop was 35th in 19:22, Levi Mickelson was 36th in 19:22, Elijah Jedlicki was 38th in 19:26 and Isaac Chavarria was 48th in 20:00.

For Kenai, Jack Laker was 17th in 18:05, Chase Laker was 25th in 18:40, Zane Tews was 44th in 19:45, Vail Coots was 54th in 21:04, Logan Cartwright was 56th in 21:17 and Cooper Darling was 59th in 21:54.

For Seward, Trevor Guernsey was 30th in 18:55.

Kenai boys, girls both placed third overall in the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
