Seward’s Jacoby nets 2 silver medals at nationals, makes worlds team

Lydia Jacoby, a 2022 graduate of Seward High School, picked up a pair of silver medals at the USA Swimming National Championships this week in Indianapolis.

Jacoby’s performance earned her a spot on the U.S. team for the world championships in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 14 to 30.

Jacoby, swimming for the Seward Tsunami Swim Club, made the team with her second place in the 100-meter breaststroke Friday.

Lilly King won at 1 minute, 4.75 seconds, while Jacoby was second at 1:05.16 and Kaitlyn Dobler was third at 1:05.48.

According to swimswam.com, this was Jacoby’s fastest 100 breaststroke since winning the Olympics in 2021.

“I’m really happy with how it went,” Jacoby said in an interview posted on swimswam.com. “I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. I missed the team last year and I never wanted to feel that again so I was definitely stressing a little.”

In the 50 breaststroke Thursday, King swam 29.77 seconds to nip Jacoby, who was at 29.81. According to swimswam.com, this was the first time Jacoby broke 30 seconds in her career. Dobler was third at 30.36.

Jacoby did not compete in the 200 breaststroke at the meet. King also won the 200 breaststroke.
