Rain forces Oilers-Pilots postponement

Persistent rain forced the postponement of Tuesday’s Alaska Baseball League game between the Peninsula Oilers and Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark.

Tuesday’s postponed contest will now be played Thursday as the opener of a doubleheader. The Oilers and Pilots will try to begin the six-game season-ending series Wednesday at 6 p.m., before embarking on consecutive days of doubleheader action, Thursday and Friday, with both twin bills starting at 4 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Oilers hold a 4-1 season series lead over the Pilots with a playoff spot in their sights, but have tumbled down the standing with a three-game losing skid. The top four teams in the ABL standings play in the postseason, and the Oilers (19-19) currently hold the third spot, 4 1/2 games behind the league-leading Mat-Su Miners (25-16).

The Anchorage Bucs (22-17) sit second, two games back, and the Pilots (15-21) are fourth, 7 1/2 games behind. The Chugiak Chinooks (16-24) currently sit outside playoff contention, one game behind the Pilots.
