The Peninsula Oilers dropped the second of a five-game Alaska Baseball League road series with the Anchorage Bucs 8-0 Tuesday evening at Mulcahy Stadium. The game ended on a double play when the Oilers’ Alex Rubanowitz hit a groundout with the bases loaded that ended with Gabriel Munoz out at second.

The loss snapped the Oilers (10-2-2, 1-1) unbeaten streak at 10 games, but Peninsula will face the Bucs again in a doubleheader today, starting at 6 p.m.

Tyler Painton recorded the loss on the mound, pitching four innings and giving up one run on two hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Cody Richey and Soldotna product Mitchel Daugherty also contributed, as Richey went three innings with five runs (three earned) on nine hits. Daugherty went one inning with two runs on one hit and four walks. Trevor Lacosse got the win for the Bucs with seven innings of work with only one hit and five strikeouts.

Mylz Jones hit 2 for 4 including a double to lead the Oilers, and Gabriel Munoz got the other hit.

The Oilers mistakes on the hill ultimately ended up costing them. The Bucs scored their first run in the third inning when Jonathan Youngblood made it to home plate on a passed ball with Painton on the mound. Youngblood then scored again the fifth inning on a wild pitch with Richey pitching.
